2020 was a whirlwind of a year filled with uncertainty and constant adjustments to our normal lives. For most people, each aspect of everyday life included something new from working at home, socializing over facetime or simply wearing a mask. It was a long year, but a new year has come along, and it’s about time many of us get back to our normal. Here are 5 tips you can incorporate whatever your normal is back into your life this new year!

1. Make a Routine

The best way to regain a level of certainty in your life is to create an overall routine for your daily life. Make a list of daily tasks that are important to you. These tasks could range anywhere from going to the gym, making dinner every night or calling a relative. Whatever it may be, make a list of the specific non-negotiables that make your life feel normal. Once your list is complete, start structuring your day. What will your morning, afternoon and evening look like? What time do you aim to sleep? Schedule your days and make sure to leave room for flexibility. Ultimately, the last step is to follow the routine, which can be best done by making a habit out of it. Remain consistent for at least 2 weeks and your routine will settle in.

2. Take Care of Yourself

Self care is super important to sustaining your mental and physical wellbeing. You can begin by making a list of all the important appointments you must attend. Schedule a physical evaluation with your doctor, book a hearing test or make an appointment with a therapist. Self care can also include activities that relax and inspire you. Whatever your self care entails for this year, ensure it is your top priority.

3. Make Goals

Embrace the power in writing and planning your goals. Last year, many of our goals were redirected, but this year presents an opportunity to pursue new and improved goals. Think of rewarding actions you would like to accomplish and write them down in a list from most important to least. Create a timeline for your goals and describe how you will accomplish them. Write them down in a special place that you can refer to at least once a month.

4. Safely Socialize

Regain your sociability and begin making time to socialize once more. 2021 is filled with diverse ways to engage in socially distanced fun with our peers, even as we continue to alternate between lockdown periods. Perhaps you can schedule a Netflix Party movie date with a friend, or a Facetime call with food delivered to one another’s locations. Maybe you’ll engage in virtual games like bingo or start a virtual book club, the possibilities are endless. We are fortunate to live in a time where we can digitally communicate, so let’s make the most of it!

5. Return to Your Hobbies

We all have things we love doing that don’t necessarily make money or provide any purpose outside from making us happy. Our hobbies play a major role in providing us with a sense of normalcy, so make the time to return to your simple pleasures.

Our society has endured a lot of rapid changes this past year and our lives have had to adapt with the times. 2021 presents an opportunity to safely regain our sense of normalcy and to connect closer to those who matter the most to us. Let’s seize the moment to live, link and love with healthy hearing in 2021!
